Friday, March 13, 2009Season 4.5: Daybreak, Part 1PRE-EPISODE I think this is the penultimate episode. 10:15 PM The first fifteen minutes of this penultimate episode takes place on New Caprica before the Cylon attack. They waited until NOW to do this scene? Or maybe, they just want to remind us of the show's beginnings. Gaius's father has an accent that sounds like a cross between Scotty from Star Trak and Chris Multisanti fromt he Sopranos. New Caprica looks remarkably like a city on the United States in the year 2009. I think I liked Roslin better when she was some ditzy government worker living on New Caprica, and not the President of the Colonies. It's too bad about her family being killed by a drunk driver. 10:26 PM The Gaius flashback reminds me of the days where I used to be envious of him for having such hot tall blonde girlfriend. Tricia Helfer was a Victoria's Secret model before she played a Cylon. She was 30 years old when the show started, but now she's almost 35. So sad. 10:36 PM Nothing much really happened since the last commercial break. Bill Adama and Kara went to visit Anders in his hybrid tank. Kara confirmed that she found her dead body on "Earth." 10:46 PM Apparently, Anders told them the location of Hera, although I didn't see that. In the final scene before commercial break, we see Helo and Athena. The latter looks ugly without her makeup. 10:57 PM The "one way trip" from the previews last week refer to the rescue mission. This seems like a stupid mission to me. It has never been made clear to me why Hera is so important. It seems like Cylon religious superstition that's not the concern of humans. Not worth risking my life for. 11:01 PM The preview shows that the final two-hour episdoe next week will have a lot of battles and explosions, but it seems pointless to me.
Comments:
Tricia Helfer had a recurring role on "Burn Notice" this season, but got killed in the last episode.
20 minutes of commercials
25 minutes of flashbacks 15 minutes of actual episode (which weren't bad) Of course, as stated in the review, the whole rescue mission doesn't make sense. You're low on parts and supplies. So, you decide to waste a ship on a pointless mission. I'm sure the captains waiting on some replacement parts will be just thrilled to see them sail off on a useless quest.
well the flashbacks are either pointless rubbish or these dead people (Baltar's father, Roz's sisters, Apollo's bro Zack) will all come back as 'angels' on this trip into 'hell' they are about to endure.
It appears to me this is all a 'set up' for the new Caprica TV show.
What has happened to this series? 3 WEEKS in a row of blah blah blah nonsense. You know...if we spend 3 less minutes in flashback land and 3 more, say, listening to what may have been told to THrace and Adama abot Hera - it would have been worth it...what happened there?
They're not just low on food and ships and parts, they're low on PEOPLE. In "real life" a species' survival instinct would prevent the Adama decision - "let's go rescue Hera to see what's up with her, while almost certainly tossing the last 30,000 of our species away". Good thinkin'.
Before the nukes, how many people were there, billions? I'm with Gaius and his harem, why the hell shoot yourself in the face for no reason? And Adama gets to make him, again, look cowardly.
Here is a wild thought. This all turns out to be some virtual simulation that is happening with people on Caprica. Therefore it ties into the Caprica series where the Cylons get created and the insurrection happens in real life. Of course if that is what happens, then RDM will be facing torches and pitchforks.
I agree Leon. If I had confidence they would somehow go back and show what the actual question was, it wouldn't be bad. But I figure its never going to come up again. They've messed with the Baltar character so much, who knows what he is. And what was the whole point of giving his followers weapons from a couple of episodes back? Its another plot point that went nowhere.
Thoughts:
- the music from Hera is a DNA model for successful hybrid/human breeding - Anders will pilot Galactica to its end during the battle from his bath - Starbuck is like Pilot - doomed to walk the (Earth) until the end of days.. - all is a test to see if humans and cyclons (blurred existance...life) has learned to exist constructively together. - the will to live being the key to allowing their existance...against themselves. - few will survive - but they will survive and carry on. Read "A Canticle for Leibowitz"...it will all happen again...and again...and again...
