Friday, February 13, 2009Season 4.5: No ExitPRE-EPISODE THOUGHTS No exit from what? POST-EPISODE WRAP-UP The purpose of this episode is to finally explain everything, at least most of everything, and it seems to be very close to what I guessed in my post from three days ago. By showing what happened after Ellen resurrected after Saul killed her, and by giving Anders his memory back on account of getting a bullet in his brain, we are told most of the story. (It was easy to predict that Anders would not be able to finish the story after the operation to remove the bullet. The writers need to leave a little bit of mystery so we watch the remaining episodes. So now Anders is in a coma.) The "final five" Cylons are actually time travelers from the past who went to the colonies in order to prevent the human race from developing Cylons and having those Cylons rebel. But they got there too late, so instead they made a deal with the Cylons to end the war, and in return they would help the Cylons develop human bodies. (Why would the Cylons even want this?) Ellen was the chief designer of the humanoid Cylons. Apparently she did a bad job of designing Cavil, whom she calls John. Cavil/John had the "final five" Cylons killed, and when they resurrected he planted fake memories into their brains and left them with the human colonies. Cavil/John was the one who broke the peace agreement and ordered the destruction of humanity. The story doesn't tell us if "Earth" is the Earth that we live on. I think that the answer is yes. Here is my guess: the "final five," who lived in our future, somehow recovered the ancestral Cylon memories which are otherwise dormant. This explains how we are Cylon but don't know it. This episode demonstrates how evil and racist Gaeta and Zarek were. If their plan had succeeded and they had killed Tyrol, Anders, Tori, and Saul Tigh, they would have destroyed humanity's only hope for survival. This demonstrates why racism is bad, and why, here on the real Earth, we should only vote for Democrats. (Of course, I need to point out that if the final five are really the good guys, why did Tori kill Callie? Tori doesn't seem so good to me.) Besides the real story of what happened, there are three other plot developments in this episode. (1) Roslin wants Lee to take over as the--well I'm not sure exactly what. Acting president? Vice president? (2) The Galactica is falling apart, and the only way to save it is for Tyrol to use Cylon bio-technology. It's a good thing that Gaeta and Zarek were stopped, otherwise they would have destroyed everyone when they jumped. (3) Ellen Tigh has escaped from Cavil/John's evil clutches with the help of Boomer. I guess there will be a reunion with the fleet in a future episode.
Comments:
Thanks for the synopsis. Very helpful.
You Americans see everything in terms of Democrats and Republicans!
Doesn't the fact that they were drawn to earth by a Bob Dylan song confirm that the earth they lived on is our earth?
ZZZZZzzzzz, oh that had to be the most boring reveal in TV history.
Yeah, the final five are somehow the ones who survive out of 12 billion. The survivors represent about 0.0005% of the population. So a ship that has survived 50 years of service and 4 years of combat without dry dock is considered by Adama to be non-spec? It's stupid statements like that that are annoying. Also, Adama causes a mutiny by requiring Cylon FTL technology. When it's his ship though, he has to drink himself into a stupor to accept it. Roslin is completely loony.
One other item, if the five convinced the Cylons to stop the war by agreeing to create the human looking Cylons, then wouldn't the human looking Cylons know who their creators were? Cavil obviously knew. Wouldn't the original Cylons know and be able to tell the others?
Your political hang ups about the show seem odd, considering all the "bad guys" on the human side are all well-intentioned liberal politicians.
Baltar ran as an Ultra Lib, opposing Roselyn's criminalizing abortion...Zarek is a radical, militant liberal. Both of which are portrayed as misguided, and would have led humanity to destruction. The council, who have been a perpetual annoyance, are made up of politicians always clamoring about human rights in a survival situation. The fact of the matter is, the show is about fallible humans in grey areas of impossible moral situations. Every example you think is pointing to one political direction or another, can be countered by another example of things going the other way, if you weren't so blinded by bias. All characters have had to compromise on what they believe at some point or another.
Brilliant episode, shame about this guy's inane right wing hang-ups. Can you imagine what a tedious loon he must be in real life if he spits this much wingnut bile at a TV show?
"This demonstrates why racism is bad" Isn't racism bad? "and why, here on the real Earth, we should only vote for Democrats." So Republicans are racists?
I don't get why you guys even think of politics (other than in the context of the show) when you watch the program. When I'm forming an opinion on, say, the stimulus bill, I quite honestly never think about Battlestar Galactica.
When your car has a problem, do you think, "What would Chief do?" When you see Boener or Pelosi speak, do you think, "Oh, my, what will Adama think about that!"
Some observations:
- roslin's brain is already dead. - adama needs a burp cloth when drinking. - at some point all the cylons will sing that mysterious song and BSG will have a fitting Blooywood ending. lol at your racism comment. democrats dont discriminate... please. get real.
Great episode and the underlying story is beggining to crystalize: Sometime in our near future humans will discover the ability to resurect themselves from biologic into Cylon Skins. This discovery of immortality ultimately causes the destruction of Earth by Civil War, and only a few Cylon Skins escape to Kobol. There they decide to abandon immortality and the subesquent biologics colonize the twelve planets less the Final Five guardians whose mission is to shepard the humans and prevent them from making the same mistakes made on Earth with respect to AI & immortality. These guardians have had their memories and mission (to protect humanity) wiped by John, but the echo of this memory are strong enough to compel them to journey with the humans, and ultimately save them.
Did you miss something, or did I hear something that wasn't there. Didn't Anders reveal that the "final five" had created EIGHT models of cylons, not seven--meaning that there are really 13 and that there is one more model out there?
Yes, there are eight, with the missing one being "Daniel". Notice how Starbuck seemed to react to the name when Sam mentioned it. Anyone else here thing this is why Zack Adama is coming back? (He's "Daniel".)
Anon: "Great episode and the underlying story is beggining to crystalize:..."
Nice theory except it's at odds with what Anders, Cavil, and Helen actually said.
You don't seem to like the show too much so I wonder why you even watch it. In regards to the comment about racism being bad so we should all vote democrat, isn't that, dare I say, "racist" itself?
Zack is Daniel. He was the one that saves Starbuck and shows her the way to Earth. He also was able to download some info into her when they were together.
My other guess is that Lee is Daniel.
Adama is the ultimate politician.Claiming "emergency" to claim more surrogate power over the survivors. I don't like any of the characters on this show..............but yet I still frackin watch it.
"Roslin wants Lee to take over as the--well I'm not sure exactly what. Acting president? Vice president?" - just say the Adama-Roslin dictatorship. The show is in a rush towards ruin. No wonder Dee offed herself. Good move. Getting more and more ludicrous.
Ok, i think something very twisted is about to happen and that in actual fact DANIEL will turn out to be Starbuck. "Ellen made reference to "what they (the Cylons) did to Daniel eluding to some sort of experiment" also spoiler reference was made to Daniel being artistic and starbuck has turned out to be quite the painter - why mention the artistic part. If the whole time travel is correct then this explains Starbucks return and some of the strange unexplained things that have happened to her ie the baby farm - was this part of some continuation experiment/cloning. Also she is sticking pretty close to Anders and i think she has a pivotal part left to play in the concluding episodes. I think it is also interesting that the writers made Starbuck a female in this revision of the original show when she was originally a he. Could this be an amazing hybrid/genetic twist to the end of the show. I am also predicting that if this is indeed the way it plays then Starbuck will be the last character that we see as in the very first episode she was the pivotal character running on the galactical deck. further to this notion is s feeling that Starbuck has always been abit rough around the edges and one of the boys. !!!!!! I also think that alot of people put the money on Starbuck being the 5th, Ellen was pretty much a very long shot - not many people thought she was going to rebirth. Starbuck would now be the ultimate twist. Everyone will be expecting Daniel to be Lee or Zack. That would be abit of a let down anyway Starbuck has slept with all of these prospects. I dont think the writers will leave us with a Starbuck lover reunion. ???
Great analysis re Starbuck. I think you are onto something. She is a key character and I bet you are right that she will play a huge role as the series concludes.
I thought Baltar would turn out to be Daniel. Whatever Cavil did to screw up his genetic stock might explain all of his character flaws.
I'm still not clear about Earth. So Earth was colonized by Centaurians? When? And were these Cylons or did they INVENT their own cylons, who then made skin jobs, who could reproduce, but these five made a resurrection thing in orbit?
My wife thinks that we're going to find out in episode 4.18 ("Islanded in a Stream of Stars") that the whole show was a sugar-induced coma of Hurly's on a famous time-shifting island, and that Ellen is really Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie.
We're still working on figuring out where the corners from all their papers and photos went, though...
ELLEN ELLEN ELLEN!!! I have seen Helen soo many times by people on this blog. There is no H! GODS!

There are some good theories here though. Zak Adama is Daniel...I find it too hard to believe or even accept that. If Daniel is Zak then how is it Adama, assuming, remembers his birth...childhood...so on so forth? Not even close. John even said Daniel was destroyed long ago, so he must be someone we have not seen. Maybe, and this is a big maybe, its Starbucks father and his Cylon DNA coded onto her which enabled her to be resurrected by a dormant resurrection ship or device on or around Earth. The Democrats and racism thing... OK so everyone understand the US is either left or right. In media you get alot of liberals, no offense to those of you who are liberal, but by saying Moore is hard right winger is a stretch. He and his writers just have a good way of doing a sort of satire on current politics. And the writers....eh might be liberals...*cough* strike anyone? The politics in the show are survivalists and preservationists. The Quarom tried so hard to retain a sense of home in the fleet, Roslin was the leader only because od defacto and Adama is the mind and fist, balls too. The racism of Zarek and Gaeta cannot be classified as racism in its form seen to us today. Look at 9-11, after 9-11 alot of Americans focused on hating Muslims because the terrorists were Muslims. Now imagine if Russians nuked England, the Brits would probably hate Ruskis for awhile. These people are still in the aftermath of a humanity wide nuclear holocaust, they have been hunted they have been harrassed, they have gone months with no idea of what was going to happen next...sorry years...so the mutineers forming a resentment towards the Cylons in the fleet is understandable. They felt betrayed, they needed an outlet, a fire to light the way. Zarek and Gaeta gave it to them. And after New Caprica, can you blame anyone? Racism... maybe, lightly. Hate from just cause? Yes. Do I agree, can't say because I havnt had my whole world annihilated by another race. Dems and Pubi's...vote only democrats? Have you ever voted, even once? Have you ever followed politics closely? Have you ever experienced the world outside of the US *assuming your an American*? No side is always right, if you have all Dems...oh yea like right now...you will see things no go the way you want. WHY? Because everyone is not the same. When you have 1 dominant ruling party in a country like the US and you have a small percent left over who are oppostie of them you will see discontent. If you think Republicans should never hold power I want you to hope on a plan and fly to Afgahnistan, take a car ride up north and say hi to so of those radicals up there. See if they care which party you are and then say your a dem. They will then shoot you for being American. The republican party hard liners for defense and secret operations are the smart guys, the democrats who want to open secret files to the public are retarded frakkers who need to be vented out an airlock. Let the world know what you are doing behind the scenes and watch the body count rise. War is inevitable, religion secured that in our blood. I am off subject now. I am a moderate Rebublican, I dont live in the US because I needed a job. I fought in the war as a combat soldier. I see the world for what it is, and I dont put anyone down while doing it. I am in a place where English is not around...and I love these people even though alot of Americans think they are a future enemy.
