Friday, January 23, 2009Season 4.5: A Disquiet Follows My SoulPre-episode thoughts Last week it was determined that the old bones on the bombed out planet were Cylon. HOW THE HELL DO THEY KNOW THIS? I mean, they can't tell the difference between living Cylons and living humans, how can they identify Cylons from two-thousand-year-old bones? Besides, they can't be Cylons, because the Cylons were created by the men living in the colonies. 10:08 PM Yay! Richard Hatch, the original Apollo, is in tonight's episode. 10:21 PM It's not the ex-Chief's baby. That Callie was a real slut, wasn't she? 10:30 PM Gaeta has big cajones for a gay guy. Starbuck could have beaten the crap out of him before he became a cripple. Gaeta was actually a lot more interesting before he was gay (or bisexual or whatever he is). I spent much time pondering his attraction to Gaius Baltar. It turns out that it was nothing but a homosexual man-crush. 10:47 PM The fuel ship jumped away because Tom Zarek said they had the right not to allow Cylons on board. 10:57 PM Tom Zarek gave Adama the coordinates of the fuel ship, because Adama had dirt on him. But now, he's cooking up a revolution with Gaeta. I'm not sure whether or not I'm supposed to be rooting for Zarek. Maybe it's time for a change of leadership.
Comments:
Pretty decent episode but it didn't totally knock my socks off. Hard to say why -- maybe it was just my mood. Frequently the "life on the ships" episodes bore me, though.
Kind of odd the president is suddenly completely healthy. And now Tigh is all lovey-dovey and is having a baby with Tricia Helfer. And Callie -- the least likely to be a slut in the entire fleet -- is a slut. I don't know, this series can sometimes show the downside of making it up as you go along. Maybe they introduced the gay part of the Gaeta to give him an explanation for abandoning his loyalty to the admiral. After the admiral made love to the president, perhaps Gaeta felt jilted. I hope we don't get seven more episodes like this one then a finale that tells us everyone is a cylon (including us humans now) and therefore we all just need to love one another. Or something like that.
Actually, Adama had nothing on Zarek because I believe Tigh looked at the big stack of papers and said "Laundry Reports." That of course doesn't make a lot of sense because Zarek has always been a pretty cagey guy. I doubt he would get fooled by such a simple bluff.
I'm confused, wasn't Lee made president last year? Really this is getting sloppy beyond belief. How could anyone oppose an alliance with the lovable Cylons?
I've been a big fan of the series, and still am, but I'm glad it's ending. I no longer look forward to it the way I did the first couple of seasons. I'll watch until the end, but I kind of wish there were only a couple more episodes left.
Oh, about Lee being president...
I am forever getting confused about Lee's role. I thought the writers acknowledged they'd been sloppy when they inserted the line this week that said "or whatever your job is today." (That's a paraphrase.)
If anyone can explain anyone's role anymore, more power to you. Personally, the only adult character in the series is Zarek. In the past he was obviously a shady character but let's look at his small role and see what he's done.
1. Managed to get pardons for pretty much everyone in the prison ship. 2. Helped Roslin and Lee during the coup. 3. Wisely knew not to commit violence down on Kobol. To bad his idiot henchmen didn't. 4. Became VP under Baltar. 5. Obviously opposed Baltar enough that the Cylons were going to execute him. 6. Didn't try to claim the presidency after the escape from New Caprica, but let Roslin become president again. (That looks like a bad choice now) 7. Somehow let Lee become president until Roslin became president again. 8. Got the council to pass a resolution that gave rights to the people of the fleet on whether to allow Cylons on board their ships or not. 9. Got arrested for telling a ship that it had the right to defend itself based on the law passed by the government. Also, he wisely pointed out the stupidity of having public trials for collaborators. Meanwhile Adama and Roslin are doing the horizontal mambo while the fleet falls apart. I vote for Zarek. He actually knows how to accomplish things and get people behind him.
That's a good point. Adama and Roslin are rutting like teenagers on spring break while the crew is blowing their brains out.
Tonight's episode should be a good one. Afterward, only seven episodes will remain.
Some of these episodes, my sources say, may be longer than the standard 44 minutes. I will try to be here tonight for the live blogging.
First season, Baltar built a nuke powered Cylon detector with help from the Six that's in his head. It correctly identified Boomer as being a Cylon, but he modified it to always read everyone as human since he decided that telling an undercover Cylon the truth about their existance wasn't the path to long life and lots of nookie.
