Friday, May 16, 2008Season 4: Guess What's Coming to DinnerPRE-EPISODE THOUGHTS My guess is Cylons! LIVE-BLOGGING THE EPISODE (Don't I have anything better to do on a Friday night? I guess not.) 10:09 PM An FTL malfunction on the sewage treatment ship results in the Cylon base ship jumping into the middle of the Colonial Fleet by itself, creating a bunch of drama in the "teaser" segment. But luckily no one was killed. The mystery is why did Tigh yell "hold fire." Was that Tigh the Cylon or was it the old Tigh speaking? 10:19 PM Number Six wants the humans to help them unbox the Deanas because they will identify the Final Five. Tigh and Tory don'lt look so happy about that. I think that Doc Cottle is cutting off Gaeta's leg. Poor Gaeta. He seems like such a nice guy. Except for when he lied on the witness stand. I wonder if he's the final Cylon? 10:32 PM Tigh argues that they should just blow up the master resurrection ship and not rescue the Deanas. Tigh doesn't want his secret identity to be discovered. But his plan was shot down. On the Cylon ship, the Cylon skinjobs agree that they will use their Centurions to take over the ship after Deana is recovered. Those sneaky Cylons. You can't trust them. Apollo visits Roslin in sickbay to tell her that the Quorom is going to give her a "no confidence vote," whatever that means. Gaeta is there singing. He has a great voice. 10:43 Tory gets Baltar to reveal that he heard about Roslin's dream from the Number Six in the brig. Then Roslin has another dream, and Baltar is in it too. I have no idea what the hell the dream is supposed to mean. At the end, Athena sees Hera. 10:57 Everyone in sickbay it probably tired of hearing Gaeta singing. I know that I am. Will Athena be court martialled for shooting the Number Six? Probably not, no one ever gets punished for shooting things aboard the fleet. There hasn't even been any investigation of the Anders-Gaeta incident. I think it was a mistake to plug in that hybrid. I wonder where they jumped to?
Comments:
If only the Deanas know who the Five are, how do the raiders, or any Cylon for that matter, know there aboard the fleet?
Speaking of which, what are the chances that the Five end up in the same fleet and not toasted when the Cylons blew up the colonies. I don't see how Tigh can be a Cylon. He's old enough to be in military service and fighting the Cylons when they were still retro-looking. I'm running into more questions than the show can seem to answer anymore.
The final five are different. They could be born. The mutation (for lack of a better word) that makes them cylon could be all part of the One True God's plan. Be patient :) let it all unfold, then decide.
I'd have to agree with previous comment about the Final Five being the 'ultimate' hybrids. I actually thing that that is what the current Starbuck is...what do you think of Hera actually being Starbuck as a child. It could put us on this circular motion of death and rebirth of the human/cylon races. And what happened to the episode post from Friday? The Battlestar site only has Faith up!
This episode definitely had its problems. You asked why Tigh yelled "hold fire." What I thought was odd was that Adama did not. The battlestar and co. have had numerous odd things happen to them, and one odd thing is a large cylon ship not going on the attack. Adama all of a sudden turned into the irrational, trigger-happy one. Tigh and Adama switched personalities.
You called the cylons sneaky, figuring out a plan to secure their wishes. But seriously, think about what would happen if the deanas simply spouted out the names of the five? Do you really think that there's not going to be some "renegotiating" on part of the humans? Humans aren't to be trusted either. Now, these new resurrection hub ships are the silliest flourish to a growing crescendo incredulity. When the story gets too overwhelming to manage, why not invent something bigger and badder? It's so easy! But really, it gets me to wonder why in the world the cylons are even chasing the humans to begin with. They've won the war. Let the humans flee. Inhabit the 12 worlds and develop. The cylon population keeps plumetting and they recklessly continue to pursue their manifest destiny of finding a piddly planet. The universe really is big enough for two. And Billy, your criticisms are right on.
One thing is obvious, you can shoot anyone you want and there will be no consequences.
It's going to be fun in 10 years when the show's fanboys start to realize what utter junk the show became.
You know what? Even if they unbox the Deana's - she would only know ONE of the five. In that opisode she only went up to one of the cowled figures and said something along the lines of "Forgive me, I didn't know". She didn't even glance at the other four. I imagine the one she saw is the only remaining unrevealed to audience cylon.
