Friday, April 18, 2008Season 4: The Ties That BindPRE-EPISODE THOUGHTS The title reminds me of an earlier episode, “Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down.” LIVE-BLOGGING THE EPISODE Caval wakes up in the resurrection room, he's told about the coup from a bunch of other Cavals and a Boomer/Sharon. The Boomer/Sharon kisses him. I can never figure out what's going on aboard the Cylon ships. Tory and Chief Tyrol are looking at each other all lovey-dovey at a bar. (Wasn't she just sleeping with Baltar? She's a real slut.) Then Callie walks in and she's real pissed when she sees them together. Callie has turned all low class, while Tory is sophisticated. I can see why the Chief likes her better. And they have that Cylon thing to share too. 10:19 Richard Hatch, the original "Apollo" is standing next to Lee Adama, the current "Apollo." I love it when they do that! Man, that kid that Tyrol has does nothing but scream. Remind me never to have kids. Caval is bargaining with the Sixes and the Boomer models. I have no idea what that's supposed to be about. They want the Xena model brought back. I was surpised to see that all the main pilots, Anders, Helo, "Athena," are all about the sewage ship with Starbuck. Gaeta too. Why the hell do they need a sewage ship in space? 10:29 Callie tells the doc that she wishes that Tyrol would beat her around. Then they share a cigarette. She's so trailer park trash. Tom Zarek/the old Apollo tells Apollo that Roslin is out of control with her paranoid secrecy. At least that's what he seemed to be implying. Then he gives Apollo a folder marked "secret." Someone suggested in the comments to one of my previous posts that he thinks that Zarek might be the final Cylon. I think so too. I think that Zarek or Gaeta are the most likely to be the final Cylon. Talking about Cylons, Anders has some rough sex with Starbuck. Then a break to commercial. 10:45 Lee Adama goes after Roslin in the press conference/Quorom metting. Even though there are less than 40,000 humans, there are a huge number of people involved in either the government or the press corps. Don't people have anything more important to do? Last season, they had to use slave labor on the energy ship. Cylon civil war!!! Many Cylon base ships destroyed. Callie followed Tyrol and spied on the secret Cylon meeting. She now KNOWS that Tigh, Tory, and Tyrol are CYLONS. She runs away, but Tory notices that the plate into the crawl space between the walls had been removed while they were in the weapons locker room. Will Callie be killed by the Cylon conspirators, or will she warn Admiral Adama? 10:57 Callie knocks Chief Tyrol out with a big wrench, then goes to the airlock, to kill the half-breed baby? But Tory finds her there, and after she convinces Callie that she's not a bad person, she demonstrates that she's a good liar by knocking Callie out and tossing Callie out the airlock. Callie is dead. In the last scene, Admiral Adama is in Tyrol's bedroom. I guess the story that Tyrol is telling is that Callie went nuts and committed suicide.
Comments:
I'd like to know what the deal is with the now-motherless child. He would be the first Human/Cylon half-breed to sired by a Cylon on a Human mother. My understanding was that a Human can impregnate a Cylon but not the other way around. Is he really the Chief's kid? Why hasn't that been addressed?
Of course, the baby could be a Doctor's son...one gets the feeling that Callie and Cottle have shared a cigarette before, if you know what I mean.
Holy smokes, I cannot believe that twist. I really hope that we don't end up with just 'evil' cylons, considering that Cavel et all killed the sixes and eights. We'll see, tho.
This show sucks so bad now. Season 3 was stupid, and now Season 4 is a joke. We are no longer even watching anything close to the original premise. Some convoluted, arbitrary storyline is all that is left. BSG jumped the shark a long time ago.
I'm looking forward to the end so I can bury the series in the back of my mind, and never think on it again.
Oh my gosh! They killed Cally! You bastards!
The hybrid baby was saved, so here's what I think will happen next. The humans and the cylons will find earth, the fabled 13th colony is not there or is long dead or something, and the planet is populated by animals and maybe a handful of Neanderthals or something, and then something will happen that makes it impossible for any of them to live there, and the only ones that end up on earth are the two hybrid children (Tyrol's kid and Boomer/Athena's kid). They will grow up on the planet as the first people, the first parents of a new race. Set some 10 to 12 thousand years ago. And we'll be left asking the question: who are the cylons? And the answer will be, we are the cylons.
Even if Tory actually pushed the button -- Callie set herself up to commit suicide, and that's a lame, pathetic way for BSG to get rid of her.
She could at least have tried to reach the doctor or Adama before she got killed. BSG seems to have difficulty killing off its characters. They got rid of Kat with a lamely rationalized suicide, as well.
I hated the episode, but only because I liked Cally.
I'm just wondering what Ron Moore has against marraige. It seems like, in the world of BSG, marriages are always doomed to fail. On a lighter note, did anyone else note the serial number on the door for the secret Cylon meeting room? It was NCC-1701-D. Nice reference to Moore's first serious writing gig.
I've found that BSG does not have any connection to commonsense. In over 10,000 years there has been no advancement in science, culture, medicine or ethics. Take for instance, technological stagnation, submachine guns to kill machines, nothing more effective than shooting a cylon infinite number of times to get a kill. Instead, would'nt they develop weapons that would kill cylons in a shorter period of time. Similarly, cancer? Medical stagnation, no effective medicine breakthroughs in over 10,000 years. Societal stagnation, making machines to serve as slaves and then not enabling some restrants upon their actions? Further, class struggles and stratification? It seems that the thirteen colonies have remained stagnant in their cultural and societal development. Moreover, the Cylons seem to be headed for the same cultural trap. Why else would they give up perfectly good metal bodies and adopt biological bodies, apparently with the same weaknesses as their enemies? Makes no sense, and I'm finding it hard to believe this storyline. Maybe, the twelve colonies/cylons deserve to go the way of our dinosaur since they have stagnated/devolved to such a degree.
The only thing to expect about this show now is that it will pull out some "twist" each week that makes absolutely no sense. Suddenly Tori has Cylon super strength. Chief and Callie suddenly have marital problems. Well, one thing was consistent, Starbuck is still a character to hate.
A piece of advice for the anonymous who is trying to guess what will happen next, don't. Moore stated in one of his earliest podcasts that he had an open-ended story without a definite end in mind. Realize that they are just making this up as they go along and doing a poor job of it.
Starbuck is the character to hate?
I can't wait for cancer to take out the President because she's turned into a major bitch. Adama needs to grow some balls and tell her to stfu and get over herself. I gotta save the human race even if I'm a total bitch that doesn't actually help do jack! Allusion to G.W. Bush? Give me a break. I watch Battlestar for the character and human dynamics coupled with badass space action. Spare me the ridiculous political commentary for one friggin episode.
Okay, so the "rebel" faction of the Cylon fleet pulls a coup with the aid of the newly-aware centurions, but they don't bother to secure the resurrection ship? Um, WHAT? It's the most strategically important asset they have! Gunning down their opponents in the conference room accomplished what, exactly? Nothing. If you don't or can't gain control of the resurrection ship, violence is obviously self-defeating. They really should have read the overlord list and hired a five-year-old to point out the glaring problems with the plan.
