Pegasus

Ronald Moore once again manages to pervert the storyline of the original series.

Ever fond of gender benders, he makes Admiral Cain a woman. And of course, the new Cain is a very bad and evil woman, unlike Admiral Cain from the old series who, although misguided, we still liked him and in the end he redeemed himself.

In the old series, it was apparently very common for children to server under their parents, because Cain daughter Sheba seemed to have the same rank on the Pegasus as Apollo had on the Galactica. But in the new series, Cain looks down on this relationship. But I have to give Cain’s viewpoint, I don’t understand how Adama was able to get away with rebellion and pointing a gun at Colonel Tigh’s head. Or am I the only person who still remembers that?

In the original series, Commander Adama, a member of the Council of Twelve, outranked Admiral Cain, but in the new series, it’s Adama who is outranked.

But is Adama truly outranked? In the United States, the President is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. If the government of the fleet is in any way similar, Laura Roslyn can simply promote Adama to a rank higher than Cain’s. Why doesn’t she?

However, I think that Cain’s crew had the right idea regarding the Cylons. Hello! They destroyed all of humanity. Whether machines or biological creatures, they were genetically engineered to kill us. Any torture inflicted on them for the purpose of getting information out of them is entirely warranted. There is absolutely no excuse for Tyrol and Helo killing a human in order to save a Cylon from being tortured.

On the other hand, Sharon the Cylon seems to be helping the humans, so it’s a very bad idea to ruin a source of good information. But then it’s really hard to understand whether or not the “help” is part of the nefarious Cylon “plan.”

Comments:
"There is absolutely no excuse for Tyrol and Helo killing a human in order to save a Cylon from being tortured."

There are no scuses to torture someone/something! Torture belows the botton line where the human being can be.

I know that... my country (from 3th world) some 30 ago used torture to empower his military dictatorial regim.

I am an Australian, and series 2 has not come out over here yet, it sucks, but i have been following along with the blogs. I think the rivalry between Cain and Adama will end up with Cain leaving, as she is only a guest character, and Adama will be incharge of the military side fleet once again. Is there another 3 episodes comming up after this one or what?

Starbuck tortured that guy in season 1, and the Prez put him out the airlock when convinced his threat was a dangerous bluff. Now the Pegasus crew is (gang?) raping Cylons to try to get intel. Did either of those interrogations work? No.

OTOH, Adama has managed to get help/info from Sharon by ... being a bit nice. And, Sharon gives a damn about the humans and herself. Big difference.

That said, have the words "Abu Ghraib" crossed anyone's mind? Military people accountable to nobody will do all sorts of sh*t to prisoners under their control.

I'm very very very disturbed at this turn of events.

Ok, i have seen up to Kobals last gleaming prt 2. What the hell is with all that stuff with gaius and number 6 in the theatre? is that some sort of illusion or what? Back to Pegasus though, Cain has gotta leave somehow, either by death, leaving Adama back incharge of the military side of the fleet again, or somethin else happens.

I think Sharon is the key character who will help the humans to get to earth, and maybe she becomes human in some weird way, who knows, maybe she gains a soul( IS that a stupid idea?), and yes season 2 is not out hgere until next year, so so CR*P!

I thought this was another execrable bastardization of the original series. The fact that it was written by a woman probably had a lot to do with it. I have no problem with women writers per se (Sherri S. Tepper is a favorite of mine, for instance), but when they have an obvious anti-male agenda, it bugs me.

This show just keeps spiraling downwards, and it will no doubt achieve its highest popularity just as it hits rock bottom creatively.

Awful.

i too am an Australin and i just watced the last six episodes in a row and i thought that what just happened in the lsat episode to cylon sharon was something that might not be aired on free to air T.V in australia because of our strict laws about what can be and what cant be aired.

and it sucks because from what i cna tell battlestar has a huge folowing downunder i no everyone i talk to about the show loves it but im pissed off that everyone i talk to has no idea about what im talking about here because im further ahead then anyone that watchs it on T.V because i get it off a freind (torrentreactor.com)

Why have you created an entire site to attack this television show?

Why pour all the time in it.

Couldn't you just say:

I enjoyed the 1970s Galactica. I don't enjoy the 2000s version. That's my opinion. Have a good day.

And be done?

There, put that paragraph on your website, and just leave it at that.

It would save everyone a great deal of time and effort and pain and saddness and nausea.

Guess what, this is a new version....completely...

Nobody's redoing to 70's version, and if weren't for Ronald Moore's talanted writing (no matter how different from the 70's) no one would even bother talking or much less watching a 70 exact remake.....

IT's 2005....deal with it, or grow old, rot and complain about things gone by for the rest of your life if that's what you want....

Ok, so whats goin to happen next then? Is Admiral Cain gonnatake control of the fleet and destroy galactica ( unlikely ) or is Adama going to be promoted to admiral or something so he can overide Cain's Authority? I so want Cain to go down, she's such a bitch. Also Helo and Tyrol should have killed the Human too, HE was a sick, perverted guy. As if you would torture somebody by raping them anyway. Who agrees with me?

This show is the best show on TV. The killing of the human was an accident. Protecting Sharon was the right thing to do. The changes made from the seventies show have made this premise a lot more interesting, involving, and relevant. Even its slightly conservative slant is well justified. It asks all the right questions and isn't presumptious to the point that it doesn't claim to know the answers. Each episode is completely absorbing in and of itself, yet is an integral part of the overall story arc. What else could anyone want?

torture is unacceptable period. the human death was accidental , but in my opinion, justified.

Ronald Moore once again manages to pervert the storyline of the original series.

So when you say "pervert", I assume you mean that this is a bad thing. You are an idiot. Basically, the original series was an unmitigated pile of garbage. The actors were third-rate. The production quality was puerile (and that's compared to other shows of its time). The writers couldn't write dialogue to save their lives. It's only redeeming quality was that it was based on an interesting premise (which, lest you forget, is by no means original in ANY sense of the word). Moore has actually injected some substance into the tired "alien-of-the-week" shows that syndicated science-fiction has become - and he should be lauded for doing so.

Rewatching the Pegasus episode I ask, where is the other ship that Pegasus got its engineer from -- the guy who said, "I designed these engines"? Has Cain been destroying ships or leaving them behind in order to keep from being responsible for anything that slows her down?

And, by all appearances, her ship seems very well manned for losing 700 men in the first attack.

Like you said, machines cannot be tortured, but the Pegasus crew is torturing their cylon agent. Which means they aren't just beating up a toaster; inflicting injuries like that is wrong. It could be argued that sharks and lions are genetically engineered to kill humans, since that's what they do to people in the wild. Does that make it right to exterminate or torture them? Certainly not.

At what point does a machine that acts (and looks?) *exactly* like a human be considered at least some sort of living entity? What about lifeforms created by machines?

Beyond nitpicking (e.g. convienient human controls in the bio-controlled Cylon raiders!?), this is a fascinating question being posed by Ron Moore and typifies what good thought provoking Scifi should be like.

Middle of Jan and still no sign of BSG on ten in OZ in 06 >:[ Thanks BitTorrent!

I was a fan of the original Battlestar but this series so much better the acting for one is 1000 present better I don’t mind that Boomer is a woman and a very sexy one at that! Considering that the original Boomer became a homeless drug addict living on the streets of Fag city USA San Francisco
