Monday, July 18, 2005ScatteredAs I predicted in my last post, Commander Adama survived, and Lee Adama managed to weasel out of being in the brig. I was wrong about the Number Six that Baltar saw on Kobol being real; she was just a normal hallucination. I still predict that Baltar will switch sides like he did in the original series, but as a commenter pointed out, this will make his character less interesting. The original series had that problem. See my post What does Baltar do all day in that dark room? “Starbuck” is stranded on Caprica. Even if she can steal a Cylon Raider, she doesn’t know the jump coordinates to find the fleet. Yet I predict that somehow, beyond all possibility and logic, Kara will return to the fleet with the Arrow. A commenter suggested that the Cylons don’t truly want to destroy the last humans, because they have other plans for them. But don’t they Cylons always try to destroy the fleet everytime they get in range? Well this is actually not clear. One could argue that they only want to destroy the Galactica; once the last military ship is gone they can have their way with the rest of humanity. I think I liked the old Cylons better, all they wanted to do was kill everyone. * * * The new Galactica is starting to grow on me. I like this show. I like it more than any of the various new Star Trek shows. But it’s just unfortunate that it’s called “Battlestar Galactica” because it has very little to do with the old Galactica. It was just a marketing gimmick to get people to watch the show. * * * I am in the process of moving from Northern Virginia to Manhattan, and I doubt that I will have cable TV this Friday. This may, very sadly, mean that I will have to miss next week’s episode. This would be a horrible tragedy because then I’d lose track of the entire series.
Comments:
Don't you see? Gaius will not "switch sides". He already is a Cylon. He already is on "their" side, even if he doesn't realize it.

I think it's an amazing show, with or without the Galactica connection.
I do agree that maybe it would have been better to make a stand-alone show. But it's the best written sci fi show I've ever seen.
I believe the new revision Battlestar Galactica is absolutely the best sci-fi being made.

I'm glad it was changed and suited to fit a modern audience to keep this thing growing and completely raise the bar.
